1. The Insurance Companies (with great intentions) does not contact your beneficiary when you pass away. They do try to inform them that you have stopped paying premiums, however, it is still hard to do if you have not updated your policies with address changes and beneficiary changes.
2. Banks will not contact you if your loved one has a Safe Deposit Box with them. If someone stops paying the yearly fee they will escheat it to the government and you will never know that your loved one even had one.
3. 401K's are also accounts that should be kept up. This is one item that gets passed by often because loved ones do not know where to look.
